We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Open Source GitHub Maintainers and Senior Software Engineers with strong expertise in code review, repository maintenance, open-source development, and software engineering across languages such as C++, Java, TypeScript, Rust, Go, Python, and C.

Selected professionals will review AI-generated code patches for repositories they maintain, assess technical correctness and code quality, provide detailed written justification for their decisions, and participate in peer review with other subject-matter experts. The opportunity is particularly suited to established open-source contributors with public contribution histories and substantial experience reviewing external code. No prior AI experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

AI-Generated Code Patch Review

• Evaluate code patches generated for maintained open-source repositories
• Assess correctness, completeness, maintainability, and technical quality
• Identify regressions, implementation errors, and inappropriate changes
• Determine whether proposed patches align with repository expectations
• Apply professional engineering judgement to each submitted modification

Repository & Open-Source Evaluation

• Apply direct knowledge of repositories you maintain or actively contribute to
• Assess changes within the context of existing architecture and conventions
• Review compatibility with established project patterns and interfaces
• Consider downstream effects of proposed code modifications
• Maintain standards expected in mature open-source projects

Software Engineering & Code Quality

• Review implementations across relevant programming languages and technical stacks
• Evaluate code structure, readability, efficiency, and maintainability
• Identify edge cases, defects, or incomplete handling of requirements
• Assess whether solutions follow appropriate engineering practices
• Recommend improvements when submitted patches do not meet project standards

Written Assessment & Technical Justification

• Provide detailed written justification for patch-review decisions
• Explain technical issues clearly and precisely
• Document why proposed changes should be accepted, revised, or rejected
• Translate complex engineering judgement into structured evaluation feedback
• Maintain consistent reasoning across repeated review assignments

Peer Review & Quality Calibration

• Conduct peer reviews of work submitted by other subject-matter experts
• Assess whether evaluations are technically sound and sufficiently supported
• Identify inconsistencies across reviewer assessments
• Contribute to consistent quality standards across project work
• Support collaborative calibration while working independently and asynchronously

Ideal Profile

• Strong experience maintaining or substantially contributing to open-source repositories
• Publicly visible open-source contribution history through GitHub, GitLab, or comparable platforms
• Experience reviewing code submitted by external contributors
• Senior-level software-engineering judgement
• Strong proficiency in one or more of C++, Java, TypeScript, Rust, Go, Python, or C
• Ability to understand unfamiliar code within established repository structures
• Strong code-review and defect-identification skills
• Experience assessing maintainability, architecture, and implementation quality
• Ability to provide precise and defensible written technical feedback
• Comfortable evaluating code produced by automated or AI-assisted systems
• Strong attention to technical detail
• Ability to work independently in a flexible remote environment

Engagement Details

• Independent contractor engagement
